aNewDomain.net – My job requires a lot of driving. There are years where my car sees upwards of 30,000 miles. The expense of so much driving almost requires that I learn how to save money on my automobile expenses. There are lots of ways to record this information, but my favorite is aCar for Android from Armand Avanes. And here’s why.
Available only for Android, aCar tracks a lot of different information. This handy app tracks fill-ups, maintenance, repairs and also expansible data for your business trips. It can even track and remind you of scheduled services. As with many applications, there are free and paid versions. The paid version gives you a few things, most important being the automatic cloud backup. There are no nag screens or major limitations to the free version.
There are plenty of other great features. The social integration allows you to share your stats or charts on Facebook, G+ and Twitter. I find the statistics handy, as sudden drops in MPG can alert me to an upcoming problem. There’s even a function that predicts when you’ll next need to get gas and what your mileage will be on that day.
One of my favorite features, unfortunately only in the paid version, is the set of widgets. I don’t drive a hybrid, but I wish I had one of the car-computers that encouraged me to drive more economically. While it’s not real-time, the MPG widget in aCar does help me drive more efficiently.
If you drive for work, or maybe you’re just a car geek, I highly recommend aCar. It’s available here at Google Play for devices running Android 2.1 and up.
