For many of America’s recent war veterans, the joy of coming home gives way to the new (and sometimes unexpected) challenges of re-entering civilian life and the workforce. This can be especially problematic for those recovering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Rocky Mountain Human Services (RMHS) – a non-profit rehabilitation organization based in Denver – plays a crucial role in helping these veterans re-adjust to life back home.
Dell is collaborating with RMHS in a new assistive technology program to support and train the men and women who’ve served our country. We know that technology plays a critical role in life inside and outside the workplace – and this innovative program addresses the specialized adaptive technology needs required by many of our returning veterans. It’s all about putting individualized, even one-of-a-kind solutions in their hands; the tools they need to succeed at work and at home.
Dell’s role in this groundbreaking partnership is two-fold:
• Our Dell Service Certification Program provides free technical training and certification through Rocky Mountain Human Services (RMHS) to returning Colorado military personnel with TBI & PTSD. After training is completed, they receive internships at the state of Colorado and Colorado State University, the first step back on the road to employment.
• Our Assistive Technology Service delivers seamless access, implementation and support of technology for individuals with disabilities. Specifically, our configuration tool allows users to access, implement and procure technology. This tool, developed by Dell and Electronic Vision Access Solutions (EVAS), determines best-in-class software and Dell desktop and notebook computers, powered by Intel, to accommodate specific adaptive needs.
Adaptive technology reaches beyond those with TBI or PTSD – and the Dell ATS program does, too. For example, Larry Rich is just one veteran who’s using Dell adaptive technology for a better life. Watch his story, and then learn more about Dell’s adaptive technology solutions as they relate to our state and local government customers as well the entire rehabilitation community.
