To dive deeper into the wonderful world of workstations, I recently reached out to Jason “The Workstation Man” Devos, workstation expert and marketing consultant here at Dell.
It went a little something like this:
Who are our main workstation competitors, and how are we differentiated from them?
The main competitors of Dell Precision workstations are HP and Lenovo. We have a multitude of features that are exclusive to our workstations. We offer the world’s most powerful mobile workstations. Our tower workstations offer award-winning, best-in-class chassis design for superior serviceability, with unique front accessible hard drives and rear, outside, tool-less power supplies. Do we still build workstations to order?
Yes. And our custom factory-integration process allows customers to build their workstation to exact specifications, including installing their custom software image and applications if needed.
What is an ISV certification and why should I care?
ISV, or Independent Software Vendor, certification is the process where Dell and software vendors work together to test and certify system and software compatibility to ensure that the end user experience is as designed. This provides assurance that your mission-critical software will function seamlessly out of the box.
In what scenarios would high-performance computing workstations be necessary?
Almost every industry has roles that could benefit from the added performance of a workstation. For example, engineering, medical and digital content creation. Nearly every product you interact with on a daily basis was designed on a workstation.
What’s your favorite workstation and why?
My favorite workstation is the Dell Precision T1650 tower workstation because it gives you incredible value: true ISV certified workstation performance at an affordable price. A recent study that compared the T1650 to a standard desktop showed that performance gains of up to 972% could allow businesses to recoup the added cost of the workstation in as little as two weeks.
